Submission Guidelines

OpenScienSE 2023 accepts submissions of all types of papers that are about Open Science in the context of Software Engineering, including, but not limited to, vision papers, experience reports, automated support, and emerging results.

Papers can be written in Portuguese or English (Portuguese papers do not need an English abstract). Submissions in English are strongly encouraged so that your research can be accessed by non-Portuguese speaking researchers. Submitted papers must be unpublished and should not be under review elsewhere.

Submissions must be no longer than 5 pages including all text, tables, figures, appendices, and references. All papers must be submitted in PDF Format and formatted with the ACM 2-column conference format available at ACM template for OpenScienSE. LaTeX users must use the sample-OpenScienSE.tex file as the main.tex file. Word users should use the interim-layout-OpenScienSE.docx file.

Papers must be submitted electronically through the JEMS system.

Review Process

The evaluation criteria include the following aspects:

  • Clarity of the paper
  • Novelty of the contribution
  • Relevance to the workshop
  • Soundness of the methodology
  • Quality of evaluation (if applicable)
  • Open science and ability to replicate*

* OpenScienSE 2023 encourages authors to make their artifacts open and accessible for sake of good science. Papers will not be rejected if authors do not follow the recommendation of disclosing artifacts, but doing so might be one positive factor for reviewers to recommend acceptance.

OpenScienSE 2023 will employ a single-anonymous peer review process, i.e., the authors do not need to hide paper authorship. All papers are going to be reviewed by at least three members of the program committee, who will review the papers and discuss to reach a decision.

Presentation and Publication

Upon notification of acceptance, the authors of accepted papers will be asked to prepare their camera-ready versions. At least one author of each accepted paper must register and present the paper in the workshop. All accepted and presented papers will be published in the workshop electronic proceedings, which will be available in the SBC-OpenLib (SOL) digital library.
